Bike/Hike Trails

One of Shelby County's most prized possessions is it's 4 mile paved bike and walking trail located on the outskirts of the city of Shelby. It's tranquil scenery makes it perfect for those lazy afternoon bike rides.

The bike trail also takes you over the historic Rock Island Old Stone Arch Bridge which is one of the very few stone railroad bridges in the United States.

The Lyle and Wava Petersen Nature Preserve consists of a 40 acre Oak and meadow tract which borders the Elk Horn Creek Recreation Area. Prairie grasses and wildflowers have been planted and a hiking trail has been mowed through the area. Many types of birds and animals can be found in this area, hiking is a popular pastime here.
