Shelby County Hotel/Motel Tax Committee
100% of the revenue derived from the Hotel/Motel Tax shall be expended for the promotion and maintenance of tourism. All requests for funding shall be submitted to the Hotel/Motel Tax Committee, which shall be comprised of 7 members. Any request for funding shall be on forms approved by the Committee and shall be reviewed by the Committee to ensure the funding requests meet the requirements established as authorized by Chapter 423A of the Code of Iowa. 

Eligible applicants include any individual, agency, group, business or non-profit organization whose project has a beneficial impact on the promotion of tourism in Shelby County. The Committee encourages creative projects that enhance the lives of the residents of Shelby County and promotes tourism in its communities.

Shelby County Community Chest
Shelby County Community Chest is an organization that grants funds to agencies who serve local residents through health, education or social services or those who may have a community betterment project they would like to complete. Funds from SCCC are made possible by the generosity of local donors to the SCCC annual fund drive which will be taking place this fall.  Shelby County Community Chest accumulates and then disburses the funds from this campaign to local non-profits for a single year. Shelby County Community Foundation
The SCCF’s program and grants’ mission is to participate in funding community betterment projects and to assist nonprofit organizations that have similar objectives. The goal of the Shelby County Community Foundation grant program is to improve the quality of life in the County by supporting needs that are not being met in the areas of civic,cultural, health, education and social service. SCCF’s objective is to fund projects that will have a permanent impact for our county that people can take advantage of for many years. Only organizations providing services in Shelby County are eligible. They must be able to demonstrate broad community/county support; requests for general operational funds will not be considered. The SCCF’s mission is to provide funds to those nonprofit and governmental agencies that are involved in community betterment through their organizations. Iowa West Foundation
The Iowa West Foundation is funded by investment income and through the Iowa West Racing Association (IWRA), which receives contracted fees paid by local casino operators — Ameristar and Harrah's. The Foundation is an independent nonprofit recipient, as described in the 501(c)3 section of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation began its grant program in 1996, which awards funds for various community projects of governmental entities or nonprofit organizations. The Iowa West Foundation is headquartered in Council Bluffs, Iowa.


Through the fourth quarter of 2014, the Iowa West Foundation has awarded more than $330 million in funding to nonprofit organizations and governmental entities, enhancing the lives of thousands of area citizens. Visit
